"Beware of little expenses; a small leak will sink a great ship"
Benjamin Franklin
Tightwad Tips you ask? I'm not talking about being so tight you can't squeeze a penny out of your pocket. But it never hurts to save a buck or two!
I hope this page helps your trip to the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville area by simply giving you a few tips that will at the very least help you to not waste your hard earned money. That way you can have it to spend on something else. Maybe a funnel cake!
So, let's jump right in!
Let's start with...the car.
Saving money on Gas.
You have to be a tightwad on gas these days unless you want to go bankrupt.
To start with you might come to town with another family and split the gas. Come with a another family member(s) that could chip in.
Use a Gas Credit card. Some companies give a little discount, kinda like frequent flyer miles, for the gas you purchase on the card. But watch out, because some Gas stations charge a little more when you use a card.
Check the air in you tires. You could save a bundle on gas with this Tightwad Tip alone.
Get a tune up for your car.
Avoid idling. If you pull in somewhere, get out and enjoy the scenery, or walk around instead of sitting in the car with the air-conditioning running. You get exactly 0 miles per gallon while idling.
Go places early and avoid traffic jams. Very important tip in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
Ethonol gets lower gas milage. Until they perfect the technology, steer clear in my opinion.
Don't "gun it" on the gas throttle. Take off slower from dead stops.
Ok, let's move on to some more "area specific" tips for Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville.
Accommodations
Consider staying through the middle of the week instead of week-ends. Hotel prices are usually cheaper on weekdays. Especially during the off season.
Call ahead for reservations. Don't get price gouged at crowded times when Hotels may "up" the price.
Get a room with a fridge and microwave, then go to the Supermarket and get supplies and eat in as often as possible.
Stay at places that offer breakfast. Even if it is only a continental breakfast.
Some folks stay in a cabin. Not all that much cheeper but definitely nicer. AND...many cabin rentals give you bonus things like discount Dollywood and DollySplash tickets. Also, some give discount tickets on other local attractions. See what they offer and do the math. It may be cheaper to stay at a cabin in the long run.
Dollywood
Like mentioned above, check your vacation package if you have one. Discount Dollywood tickets may be included.
Get a Dollywood season pass if you plan to come more than once in a year.
Go to Dollywood after 3:00 and the next day is free.
Wear a fanny-pack and carry some snacks so you don't have to purchase over priced goodies there. Eat in the hotel before you go.
Look for Coke products that have Dollywood discounts on the cans. Sold at various stores around the area.
