Everybody Loves A Dolly Parade!

Every year for the last 22 years Dolly has been holding her annual Dolly Parade here in Pigeon Forge Tn. This "little" event usally draws about 50,000 Dolly lovers and spectators from all over the country. Even the world. I don't think this drew quite that many. Maybe the freezing weather played a role. I've personally seen most of these parades from a distance, since the place where I work is right across the street at Stoplight Number 7 in Pigeon Forge, where the Parade usally begins. This year I decided to take my camera, leave my little airbrush booth where I work and trek down the street acting like a tourist. I'd forgotten how much fun it can be just to drop everything and go see a parade. The only thing I regret though was that my young son James and my wife Sarah could not make it. Ohh well, we will all catch it next year I hope. The crowds start to gatherThis years Dolly parade was one of the few that I can remember that did not get rained on. But it was very cold, and as you can see, dark clouds threatened rain at any moment through the entire parade.
Waiting patiently
One of the wonderful things about a parade is the wonderful people you get to meet while you are waiting for the action to begin. Angus says, "Dolly who?"
Above you see Angus. Angus is a very friendly Chocolate Lab owned by a wonderful couple from New York I had the pleasure of meeting while standing around waiting.
This years theme was "Celebrate Ireland"After about 45 minutes of waiting things started to happen. The Dollywood Festival Of Nations theme for 2007 is Celebrate Ireland. If you love the Irish don't miss Dollywood this year as there will be a whole park full of Irish themed crafts, shows, and even the famous stage show "Rhythm of the Dance". After things started to roll along, I had a tough time keeping up with trying to get a decent photograph. They were moving along at quite a fast clip. Below are floats from some of the top shows in town.
The Dixie Stampede Float Country Tonite! Miracle Theatre Smoky Mountain Jubilee. Magic Beyond Belief Memories TheatreOk folks, there were more floats in the parade. All the other local high school bands, other shows, animals, ect. But I had been away from my place of employment for over an hour and well, I wanted to get these photos but I didn't want to loose my job if you know what I mean. Plus my battery was going dead at any minute on my camera and I wanted to perserve it for a picture of Dolly.
Are we forgetting some one? Here comes Dolly now!
Dolly's Family, cousins, nieces and nephews. Here she comes...FinallyMan, she's a small little thing! I could hardly see her up there on top of that pot-o-gold at the end of the rainbow. Hello DOLLY!
