Baskins Creek Cemetery
Sign to Roaring Fork
Motor Trail
The Baskins Creek Cemetery Trail is on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.
For simplicity sake I describe this trail as having an UPPER END and a LOWER END. You can start it at the upper end of the Roaring Fork Road, or you can start it at the lower end of the Roaring Fork Road.
This is the hike on the lower end of the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail Road.
This is the trail that starts at the "main" cemetery where many of the first homesteaders to the area are burried. This cemetary is at the beginning of the trail, so you will not have to go far to find it. You can find the other smaller secluded Baskins cemetery if you continue on down the trail to a trail intersection approximately 1.5 miles.
To find the main cemetery trail, come to Gatlinburg, go to light #8, take a left, go a little over a half mile to the Cherokee Orchard road. Keep right and follow the road all the way to the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail sign. Turn right and you are on the Roaring Fork "Loop".
Trail Marker
Go all the way around the 6 mile loop to the other end until you see the marker 10 pull off area.
When you pull off into the parking area, the Trail Sign will be right in front of you. This trail would eventually take you all the way up to the Trillium Gap Trail beyond the upper end of the Roaring Fork Motor Loop if you followed it all the way.
This trail is a moderate to hard hike.
As you begin the hike, you will run into the Cemetery almost right away. Within 20 yards or so. This is only the beginning of the hike though.
The Cemetery
The Cemetery Steps
There are rock steps leading up to the cemetery, but it is fenced off all around, and you cannot go into it.
Do Not Enter sign
Continue on past the cemetery as the trail winds modestly
up and around the hillside.
Old Head Stone
This trail has a lot of overhanging trees along the each side of the trail and makes for a very enchanting hike. They also help keep the hot sun off of you in the summer time.

The sun rays coming through the trees are always beautiful
As I mentioned, this trail starts from the lower end of the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Rd., but if you continue on it for 1.3 miles, you will run into the same trail intersection where you found the mantrail to the hidden waterfall described in Baskins Creek and the Hidden Waterfall. Except this time you arrive there from the lower end.

The "mantrail"
To locate the mantrail to the hiddenwall, just look up and over to the right of the trail marker. There you will see the trail to the fantastic cascading hidden waterfall.

HAVE FUN!
